WOOT!! Ghibli Studios has finally released its latest film which has be in production since 2006. THANK YOU Hayao Miyazaki-san!! if you have no idea who on earth Hayao Miyazaki is
(which i think you should know him), lemme make you recall.
you should know the following movies :

the man behind the creations from the Ghibli Studios. he's the writer and director for almost every single Ghibli Studios creation.
well, almost.

okay, now back to where i left. here's the latest Ghibli Studio movie which was released (or will be, at the 19th of August) in Japan ..

okay .. here goes with the synopsis of this movie
(which i got from wiki' LOL)

The plot centers on a fish-girl (aka. mermaid) named Ponyo who desperately wants to be a human. In pursuing her goal, she befriends a five-year-old human boy, Sōsuke.
OR :
A girl fish who runs away from her home in the sea. She ends up stranded on the shore and is rescued by Sōsuke, a five year old boy who lives on a cliff. Sōsuke names her Ponyo after taking a great liking to her, and promises to protect her forever. Meanwhile, her father, Fujimoto, is looking for his daughter, upset that she ran away. He calls his wave demons and has them take Ponyo back to him, since it seems he has an aversion to land. Sōsuke is heartbroken by this, and goes home crying to his mother, Risa. Risa tries to cheer him up, but to no avail ...

the whole thing is, it's plot is pretty similar to The Little Mermaid. but well, this IS Miyazaki-san's work. if he can make a movie by adapting a classic novel (Howl's Moving Castle), i think this one would be as good as Spirited Away. and he hand drawn the scenery of this movie too, according to wiki'.
